The data behind the charts

Each file is JSON and carries the database query it was made with.

A sample of the filings

Download the sample (CSV, 50 rows)

50 of the 1,125 documents, one row each with their headline figures, from the view v_document_summary, ordered by document ID (a hash, so the sample spreads across states and kinds of filing). Every column is defined in the codebook; how the figures were made is in the methods.

Please credit "Delgam (delgam.org)" when you use any of these.

Request the full database

The full database holds 1,125 public filings with 6,521 figures read from them, the Medicare cost reports of 6,046 hospitals broken down by department and building, and state annual survey data on what hospitals actually operate.

  1. Fill in the form below. It opens an email to data@delgam.org in your own email app; this page sends nothing.
  2. Each request is reviewed by hand, and you get an answer by email.
  3. If it is approved, you get read access to the private releases: the database file, the main tables as CSV and the codebook. Downloads need a GitHub account. Written terms of use come with the approval, and you accept them before downloading.
  4. Access is for the organization and purpose in your request, and can be withdrawn.
